The three best apps we’ve seen from rental car companies are the Avis Rent a Car app, the Enterprise Rent-a-Car app, and the app of Enterprise’s sister company, National. Unsurprisingly, the National Car Rental app didn’t reinvent the wheel. It is effectively the same as Enterprise’s.

Key Features on the National Car Rental App

The pre-rental experience on the National app is almost identical to that of the Enterprise app. Of course you can find National locations and book a rental through the app. National’s app seamlessly links to the Emerald Club loyalty program. It displays both pending and past reservations.

Making a reservation

Tip: The app lets you manage your reservation, as long as you attach your National Emerald Club number. So if you have not yet signed up for this loyalty program, do it to reap the benefits of rewards and get the most out of the app.

Book your rental at the “Pay Later” rate through AutoSlash for the lowest possible price, apply your Emerald Club number, and you will see your reservation in the app.

Tip: Note that National lets you credit your reservations to Emerald Club or to its sister company’s loyalty program, Enterprise Plus. We recommend keeping your points in National’s Emerald Club because it has a much more generous redemption policy.

Tip:You also have the flexibility of making a mixed-payment reservation by applying as many free days as you like toward the rental. Just remember that National’s free days are valid on one-way rentals where Enterprise’s points are not. Free days can even be used by Executive Elites when a site is sold out.

More key features

Another nice feature is the Virtual Aisle in National’s app, which lets you select a car before arrival.

Need directions? National’s app provides directions from the terminal and multiple starting points. A gas-station locator is especially handy in helping find a gas station near the airport just before you return the car.

Drawbacks

As with the Enterprise app, this app provides a listing of customer support numbers, including country-specific telephone numbers. Yet National hasn’t figured out how to allow users to provide feedback or view FAQs in the app; just like with the Enterprise app, if you have a question about a company policy, you get kicked over to a web browser.

Having said this, if you are renting from Enterprise or National in the United States, this app will fill almost every possible need.
