Advantage Rent A Car seems to be going belly up, writes travel watcher Gary Leff of View from the Wing, who speculates that the company could be heading into its fourth bankruptcy as of mid-July 2025. AutoSlash has also been asking around. Apparently Advantage is describing some major airport locations as “active” that appear to be no longer taking reservations. Let’s just say the situation is murky at best.

Is Advantage Rent a Car Legit?

Out of an abundance of caution, AutoSlash stopped offering quotes for Advantage as of July 12, 2025. A few locations may be taking reservations, but we believe they are outlier franchise locations that may not be directly affected by the umbrella company’s slow demise. Regardless, we advise avoiding the company for obvious reasons.

Let AutoSlash Track Your Car Rental for Price Drops

Remember, the very best way to get the lowest possible price on a car rental is to ask AutoSlash to track your reservation. We’ll send you an alert if there is a price drop so you can rebook at the lower rate.

What Happened to Advantage Rent a Car?

The company has been in trouble for years. The bankruptcies of Advantage Rent a Car and its sister E-Z Rent-a-Car in May 2020—the company’s third bankruptcy—made many travelers think twice about booking with them. At the time of the third bankruptcy, Advantage had locations in 27 markets, including New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, Las Vegas and Hawaii. One month alter, Advantage’s assets were split up. Six operations, including Atlanta, Charlotte, Dallas, Miami, Nashville, and Tampa were acquired by Orlando Rentco LLC. Sixt took over 10 other locations. Now it looks like Advantage Rent a Car is on life support.
