Enterprise’s Minimum Age Policy
At Enterprise, the minimum age to rent a vehicle at most locations in the United States is just 21 years old. Renting a car require a valid driver’s license with a photo. Most locations will accept a valid debit or credit card. But be sure to check with your location—some spots may only accept a credit card.
Car Rentals for 18 Year Olds
Two states—Michigan and New York—have mandated that rental car companies must rent to 18 year olds who have a valid driver’s license. Also, if you’re a U.S. government employee, you can rent if you’re 18 years old; be sure to have a copy of your official orders to show at the rental counter. Another possible loophole: 18 to 24 year olds might be able to rent if their car is being repaired.
Young Renter Fee
If you’re under 25, Enterprise charges an additional young renter fee, which can range from $19 up to $64.50 per day. In Michigan, drivers 18 to 20 years old pay an additional $40, while drivers 21 to 24 years pay $19 per day. In New York, any driver 18 to 20 years old will pay an additional $64.50 per day, while 21 to 24 year olds pay $24.50. All other renters under 25 must pay a young renter fee that averages $25 per day but can vary based on the rental location.
Types of Cars
When you’re under 25, Enterprise offers young renters a wide range of vehicles, including economy up to full-size cars; cargo vans, minivans, and pickup trucks; plus SUVs ranging from compact up to standard size with seating for up to five passengers.
