Sometimes life happens and we need to change our plans or even cancel them. Renting a car from Alamo? Take time to read the Alamo cancellation policy to ensure you won’t be on the hook for any unwanted charges.
Cancellation Policy Overview
Alamo’s cancellation policy depends on the type of reservation you have. If you booked without providing credit card details, you won’t be on the hook for a cancellation fee. However, there are some other instances, such as prepaying for the reservation, where you may incur a cancellation charge.

Prepaid Reservations
Alamo offers the option of prepaying at the time of making a reservation to receive a 5% discount. This option will appear under the “Pay Now” option when checking out and is only available at certain locations. However, making a prepaid reservation at Alamo means you’ll have to pay a cancellation fee.
Guaranteed Reservations
For certain reservations, Alamo may allow renters to guarantee a specific class of vehicle by inputting their credit card information. While your card is not charged when you make the reservation, you must cancel 24 hours before the pick-up time. Otherwise, you’ll incur a fee.
Online Check-In
Checking in online does not have a cancellation fee, unless you also prepaid for the vehicle.
Third-Party Bookings
In general, booking a car rental through a third-party website may involve separate cancellation or change fees. If booking through a third party, read the fine print to understand what will happen if you make changes or cancel.
Fee Breakdown
If you reserve a car with Alamo without adding your credit card details, you will not pay a cancellation charge. However, there are some other instances in which you may be subject to cancellation fees:
Prepaid Reservations: Alamo charges cancellation fees for its prepaid reservations, which differ depending on how far in advance you cancel. Cancelling a prepaid reservation at least 24 hours before the scheduled pick-up time carries a $50 cancellation fee. Cancelling the reservation within 24 hours—or simply not showing up for the reservation at all—comes with a $100 penalty.

Guaranteed Reservations: Alamo’s guaranteed reservations must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled pick-up time to avoid a $50 cancellation fee.
How to Cancel Your Reservation
Head over to Alamo’s dedicated page for modifying, cancelling or viewing a reservation. You’ll need the first name, last name and confirmation number you provided at the time of booking to pull up the reservation details. From there, the page will provide you the option to cancel.
So, standard Alamo reservations secured without a credit card will not require a cancellation charge and generally provide more flexibility over prepaid rates that require a cancellation fee. If there’s any chance you’ll have to cancel your reservation, the best bet is to make a reservation without prepaying.
